applications from students who aspire to work with individuals, couples, families,
and groups on mental health or behavioral, personal, and/or relational concerns.

- Review application requirements
- Complete and submit a letter of intent (PDF)
- Complete GRE record exam
- Score a 450 minimum on verbal and quantitative scales, taken within the last five years.
- Send results directly to the department (Code: 3045)
*Note: Only applicants possessing doctoral degrees are exempt from the GRE requirement).
- Complete admission application (PDF)
- Complete and submit two essays
- Personal Autobiographical Statement and Professional Goals
Write a brief, autobiographical essay outlining your personal and family background and how your experience has led to your decision to pursue a career as a marriage and family therapist. Please include a discussion of your professional goals. (Please type – four-page maximum.)
- Essay on Ethics and Morality
Write a brief essay in response to the following statement: "The society in which we presently live has redefined ethics in such a way that it is separate from morality. This separation of ethics from morality decreases the importance of morality and moral behavior in our lives and in society – much more than when ethics and morality were linked." (Please type – two-page maximum.)
- Mail official transcripts of all undergraduate/previous graduate work directly to the department (No copies or unofficial student copies will be accepted):

Ideally, these recommendations should come from professors, professionals in the mental health field, and/or employers who can address your qualifications and potential for graduate study, the field of marriage and family therapy, or both. (Friends, family members, and acquaintances are not acceptable references.)
- Applicant interview
Upon review by the faculty Admissions Committee, a select group of applicants will be invited to participate in day-long interviews on campus.
